Paper Becomes Form
What can paper become if you add technique to your vision? Paper can hold curves, form angles, and change its very structure with precise folding and slicing. In this experience, you will learn how to map out flow, manage movement, and visualize your artistic intention into a three-dimensional reality.
Core Technique Focus
Material
Control
Paper weight, fiber direction, and pliability will be important considerations as you design a piece. Learn how to make informed decisions about the paper’s weight and malleability to create stability and fluidity.
Form Construction
Each of these artistic processes will be considered as you build one module upon the next, refining the sculpture into a cohesive whole. You’ll learn how to build forms in layers, adding a module to a base.
Surface
Rhythm
You’ll discover how to repeat lines to create harmony and balance, vary the lines to create visual interest, and manipulate the direction of the lines to control the movement of the paper.
Detail
Precision
Sharpen attention to joints, edges, and transitions where form integrity is defined. Subtle refinements elevate the final piece, reinforcing craftsmanship, upgrading durability and visual impact.
The most valuable aspect of the class for me was the breaking down of each step of the process so I could see exactly how the individual folds would affect the stability and the overall design of the final product.
